2.2.5 Glass fiber reinforced polypropylene
The preparation method of glass fiber reinforced polypropylene is very simple. As long as the polypropylene resin with a melt flow rate of 3~13g/10min is mixed evenly with glass fiber in a certain proportion (generally, the mixing amount of glass fiber is within the range of 10%~30%), it is mixed, plasticized and extruded uniformly by an extruder for granulation, which is called glass fiber reinforced polypropylene. The abbreviation code of glass fiber reinforced polypropylene is GFRPP.
(1) Performance characteristics
In addition to the properties of the original polypropylene, glass fiber reinforced polypropylene has the following properties.
① The mechanical strength, rigidity and hardness have been greatly improved.
② The maximum hot deformation temperature is 130 ℃.
③ The tensile strength and bending strength were nearly doubled, and the impact strength was more than doubled.
④ The products have good creep resistance. Small shrinkage and good dimensional stability after molding; Low temperature impact strength is high.
⑤ Small water absorption, excellent electrical insulation performance.
⑥ Good antifriction and wear resistance, vibration absorption and noise elimination.
⑦ Compared with other thermoplastics, glass fiber reinforced polypropylene has low relative density, good fluidity of molten materials and low price.
The properties of glass fiber reinforced polypropylene are related to its preparation method, the length and amount of glass fiber mixed. The properties of glass fiber reinforced polypropylene with different preparation methods are shown in Table 2-52. The properties of glass fiber reinforced polypropylene produced in China are shown in Table 2-53.
(2) Forming method and application
Glass fiber reinforced polypropylene molded products can be molded into plastic products by injection, extrusion and cross pressing. At present, injection molding machines are widely used in plastic products factories.
Because some physical and mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced polypropylene are similar to those of nylon, polycarbonate and polyformaldehyde in engineering plastics, and the price is relatively cheap, its applications in automotive, electrical and chemical industries are gradually expanding.
Specific applications are as follows.
① Automobile manufacturing industry: the front guard, rear car cover, battery box and style fan cover, tail lamp cover, heater cover, etc. of small cars are injection molded with injection molding machines.
② In the chemical industry, pipes, pipe fittings, valves, pump shells, metering pumps, diaphragm pumps and filter plates are used to transport various liquids.
③ Agricultural machinery is used as spray, nozzle, walking tractor diesel tank, water tank hopper, diesel engine vacuum cleaner cover, etc.
④ Other machines are used in power machinery, radio special equipment parts, plumbing equipment and teaching instruments.
