Section 4 Damage of Mold and Repair of Mold Damage
Extrusion molding plastic molds, if the material used to make the mold is more accurately selected, the structure is designed reasonably, the mold operation and maintenance methods are correct, they can be used for a long time. The damage or failure of the mold during work may be caused by the following factors.
① The quality of the manufacturing materials selected for the forming mold does not meet the requirements of the working conditions of the mold, and the work deformation under high temperature environment is large, not resistant to corrosion or abrasion.
②During the use of the mold, improper installation and removal of various parts of the mold caused impact marks or scratches on the working surfaces of the mold, making the mold unusable.
③ The design of the diverter cone angle in the mold is too large, so that the resistance of the melt flow in the mold is large, so that the support rib of the diverter cone is broken.
④ The working surface of the mold parts is low in hardness and the material is not wear-resistant. As a result, the working surfaces (such as mandrels, dies and shaping sleeves) are quickly worn away, resulting in rough surfaces, which can no longer guarantee the dimensions and gloss requirements of the materials.
⑤ When the mold is installed or adjusted, the bolts are removed or tightened incorrectly, resulting in deformation or breakage of the bolts.
Out
⑥ Improper storage and protection of the mold. Not coated with anti-rust oil; the inlet and outlet are not sealed; the mold parts are deformed due to long-term backlog of heavy objects.
Repair of mold damage
① If a long-term forming mold is used, its sizing sleeve or die lip will become larger due to long-term wear. At this time, the newly manufactured sizing sleeve should be replaced again. When the die lip is severely worn, the work plane finish is damaged. It should be re-polished and chrome-plated.
② Corrosion pits appear on the surface of the parts in the mold. The pits should be smoothed first, and then the chrome layer should be used.
③ For parts in large molds, when deep pits appear on the working surface, electric welding method can be used to fill up the missing parts, and then polish and smooth them.
④ Slight scratches or burrs appearing in the mold parts can be ground with fine oil stone or fine abrasive cloth to remove the scratches and burrs.
